The use of retaining walls and high garden walls has always been recommended by professional landscaping contractors because of their ability to prevent soil erosion. However, keep in mind that when having these types of walls built in your garden, there are several things that you need to remember. Read on to learn more about them.

1. The first would be when you are choosing the site for your high garden wall or retaining wall. Keep in mind that the wall should be able to withstand the force of the soil that would be pushing against it without breaking down or slipping. Be sure that you would be conducting a proper survey so that you would be able to estimate the amount of pressure that would be exerted on the wall.

2. The slope pitch on which the wall would be sitting generally determines the size of the wall that you should be building. For instance, a retaining wall that is on a gentle slope can be lower compared to the wall that is built on a steeper slope.

3. Drainage is also important to consider when building high garden walls or retaining walls. It is essential that you or the landscaping contractor would be able to come up with an effective draining system. This would include digging a shallow ditch on the top of the wall to collect the water n the surface and gravel backfilling using a drain pile system so that the subsurface water can properly be collected.

4. If you would be building your retaining wall on top of a steep slope for the purpose of protecting against a garden that is overflowing with plants, then you can have it constructed with two or three walls that are arranged in a multiple wall design or a terrace pattern. This would provide an additional layer of protection and would keep the plants that are in the back of the wall by from being obstructed by the ones in front.
